Is there anything better than opening your letterbox and finding a letter or a parcel addressed to you? Like a proper letter I mean, not a bill or a reminder or a bundle of junk mail.
I find it sad that email and text often replace this age old gesture as apart from the fact that I find emails just so impersonal - I also personally suck at responding to emails and texts. I find that I read them on the run and therefore I probably don't enjoy or appreciate the message as much as I would if I was sitting down and opening it the old fashioned way.
When I am the one sending the letter, then I tend to make a little ritual of it. I gather my supplies - a warm cuppa or glass of wine, a fancy pen and a chunk of time to just sit and think about what it is I would like to say to the person I am writing to.
I also like to choose a card or paper that is personal and relevant to the message I am sending and often when a card or message I receive really speaks to me, I put it on my notice board or in a frame so I can see it all the time.
Call me sentimental, but I have a box of letters and special cards given to me by friends and family over the years and every now and then I love to sit quietly and read through them.
